Entrance Examinations
TUTS accepts applications from those who have a conviction of God’s calling as a minister and are willing to submit themselves to theological training for church ministry. Every application must be accompanied by a letter of recommendation from a minister of protestant church, of which the applicant is attending as an active member. Applicants holding a bachelor’s degree in the field of theology, divinity, religion or its equivalent may apply to the Master of Divinity program.
TUTS welcomes international students, especially those from Asian churches, which share their missionary origins with Japanese protestant churches. Since all the classes are taught in Japanese, students whose first language is not Japanese are expected to have the Japanese language proficiency sufficient to enroll in academic classes.
The following remarks will be helpful for the applicants:
- Entrance examinations are given in Japanese.
- International applicants must meet one of the following criteria:
- ①is certified at Level 1 or N1 of the Japanese Language Proficiency Test given by the Association of International Education Japan and the Japan Foundation.
- ②has received no less than one year of education at an accredited Japanese senior high school, technical college, professional training school, junior college or university.

◆ Tuition and Fees
- Application fee:26,000yen
- Admission fee:290,000yencharged once at matriculation
- Tuition*:540,000yen/yearmay be paid by the semester
- Facilities fee:240,000yencharged once at matriculation
*International students may qualify for a partial tuition waiver.

Resident Scholars
TUTS offers a one-year study program for students from foreign churches who are not seeking a degree.
◆ Conditions for Application
- You are clergy of a Christian denomination.
- You have sufficient Japanese language skills to study at TUTS.
* To apply, you must pass the Japanese Language Proficiency Test offered by the Japan Foundation with a score of “2” or “N2.”
- Upon completion of study program, you should return immediately to your country to serve your church.
◆ Tuition and Fees
- Application fee: 10,000 yen
- Matriculation fee: 20,000 yen
- Tuition: approx. 300,000 yen / year
* No scholarship available.
◆ Application Deadlines
- For September enrollment, applications must be submitted by June 1.
- For April enrollment, applications must be submitted by January 1.
